howdy

Howdy, boy that word, makes me chuckle. Im recently, a step up, on my recovery ladder. Basically more independent. You know what is wonderful? Im able to see myself walking. My class at the local jc is wonderful. Basically all my classmates want to better themselves. Everyone is different however we have a common goal. My heart goes out to my fellow classmates. Progress seems slow, but never will I quit. Where your going is improvement. Boy the new me is ready for bed. Remember sleep is crucial. Keep striving for improvement!

Back to School!

Jay is back at school at MPC and is doing great. He started his PE class back up and today got a 100% on his test about the brain! His class is "Interesting" as my mom would call it. It is a class for people that have had Brain injuries or some sort of disability. From people being hurt in war, accidents, etc, Jason is not mainstreamed yet, but hopefully will be able to by taking these classes. It is a good "back to college intro" for Jason and as his brain continues to recover he will be using it and strengthening it! I passed a guy a little bit older than Jason the other day while I was driving. He was in a wheelchair, sitting in the sun, with his shirt off, with a hopeless look on his face. I am not sure why he is in his condition but he looked very depressed and had no desire to do anything but sit in the sun. I am glad that Jason has the support that he does and has the desire to want to get up in the morning and do something with his life. Everyday is a gift whether we are in a wheelchair or not. We are all here on this earth to do something. I am grateful for my legs and arms that work and have no idea how it would feel to not be able to use them correctly. Jason has had an amazing attitude and I know his legs will get him where he wants to go someday.

Standin' around

You will find Jason standing up more these days right here in his living room. Holding onto the wall helps him with balance. I noticed when he came to visit a few weeks ago, on his transfers he can practically stand up by himself! He stands up straight and not leaning over you like he used to. We loved having Jason here in SLO with us and he says he is moving here when he gets a little better!! It is nice to see Jason have goals and see himself make progress:)

Something New

Jason is re-learning everything, even putting himself to bed. He completed this task, all by himself the other night. Brushed teeth, changed, got into bed, pulled the covers and yelled good night! My parents especially mom, was amazed at how she did not have to do anything to help him! Another sign, that his brain is still recovering, and he is making progress. Jason's accident was over 2 years ago and we are going to see some great changes in 2010 for Jay. Thanks for the continued support and comments. Jason will now be updating the blog every few entries.

hey

Howdy, this is Jason. People, I really notice, how so many people, take there health, for granite. Alot of people, walk, talk, and they still have, no direction. We dont realize, how lucky we are, to be american. Atleast, have a decent job, realize how lucky, you are, to be american. To many people, need to drink alchol, to have fun. Did we forget, how to have fun? Drinking is fun, but hard to moderate. Im becoming, slightly more independent. Im getting, in bed, alone. As well, as out. The next step, is to dress myself. Man, I lived 22 years, traditional. Very hard, to acept I had a acident. Very unreal, imagine all the sudden, you need help, with many things. Im not a baby, however the care I need, reminds me of a baby. Boy, if im a baby, babies are not ideal. Luckily, my parents are giving me, a chance.

Jay turns 24

Jason celebrated his 24th birthday amongst friends and family. We truly are celebrating his life and the fact that he is still here to celebrate his 24th b-day. Yes, we wish he could walk. Yes, we wish he could speak better. Yes, we hate seeing him struggle to do simple things a normal 24 year old can do. But, this year, I think our wish is that he continues to press forward and move on with his life. Jason, it is time you write an entry, so stay tuned, to hear from "The Jason Leach."

Burger!

Jason came to Fresno and look what he ate with Aunt Gaye!! "Dog House grill" cheesburger...yum!! Aunt Gaye and Jason had a pact that they would eat his first cheesburger with each other. He enjoyed eating a burger that wasn't "blended". We had a good time celebrating Ellie's b-day at the bowling alley, which Jason watched and cheered us on. I am headed to Monterey this week to be with Jay. Can't wait to see what he can do with me:) It's always different when someone else it taking care of you. Hopefully he can show me some skills! Jason is challenged right now with his recovery. It is hard, tough, and not easy to do things, but he just needs to keep trying. Our inner strength can get us farther than we think. I hope he can gain some more this week.
